PRACTICE TESTS

Prepare with Confidence

Effective Date: 01.04.2025

Psychometric assessments are part of both recruitment and leadership development at Winning Performance. They provide an objective view of how you think, reason, and respond under pressure. These assessments are not pass or fail. Instead, they highlight your natural style, drivers, and approach to problem-solving.

In recruitment, employers and boards use them as one piece of evidence alongside interviews and references. In leadership assessments, they are confidential to you, supporting your self-awareness and growth.

Personality Questionnaires

You will usually complete three untimed self-report questionnaires (approx. 45 minutes total). These explore:

  • Personality and preferences
  • Values and drivers
  • Behaviour under pressure

There are no right or wrong answers. Every style has both strengths and trade-offs. The best approach is to read each statement carefully and answer honestly.

Ability Assessments

At Winning Performance, ability assessments are completed under supervision via video conference. This ensures fairness, protects thei ntegrity of the process, and allows us to answer any questions before you begin. You will typically complete three reasoning assessments:

Critical Thinking
  • Measures: Your ability to analyse arguments, test assumptions, draw logical conclusions, and interpret information. These tests show how well you evaluate evidence and reach defensible decisions.
  • Format: Supervised. Multiple choice. Untimed (approx. 45 minutes, 40 questions)
  • Tip: Base your answers on the evidence provided, not your personal opinion.
  • Practice: Test yourself or see worked examples.
Numerical Reasoning
  • Measures: Your ability to interpret and work with numerical data, often in tables, charts, and graphs. These tests assess how accurately and quickly you can analyse figures and draw conclusions under time pressure.
  • Format: Supervised. Multiple choice. Timed (15 minutes, 36 questions). A calculator is allowed.
  • Tip: Accuracy matters more than speed - don’t worry if you don’t finish every question.
  • Practice: Test yourself or see worked examples.
Logical Reasoning
  • Measures: Your ability to solve problems using unfamiliar information, usually patterns or sequences of shapes. These tests assess how well you identify rules and apply logical reasoning.
  • Format: Supervised. Multiple choice. Timed (42 minutes: Part 1 – 40 mins for 23 questions; Part 2 – 2 mins for 2 questions).
  • Tip: Identify the rule first -look for changes in shape, shading, position, or size.
  • Practice: Test yourself or see worked examples.

Preparing for Assessments

  • Choose a quiet space without distractions
  • Use a computer (not a tablet or phone) with a mouse or trackpad
  • Read instructions carefully before starting
  • Manage your time - don’t worry if you don’t finish every question
  • Be authentic in personality and values questionnaires - there are no “right” answers.

Final Note

Psychometric assessments are only one part of the process. In recruitment, they sit alongside interviews, references, and other evidence. In leadership assessments, they are a tool for your self-awareness and growth. They are not designed to catch you out, and there is no single pass mark. With preparation and a clear understanding of what to expect, you can approach them with confidence and perform at your best.
